Admission Time
Your admission time will be confirmed by either your doctor’s rooms or Westside Private Hospital staff. Please report to Westside Private Hospital on Level 1/32 Morrow St. Taringa 4068 at the time provided. Please advise our staff if you may be pregnant or breastfeeding.
Surgery Information & Informed Consent
Information about your operation will have been supplied to you by our hospital or your Doctor, please ensure you read this carefully as it explains the:
- procedure
- associated risks
- preparation required, and
- expected outcomes
This information is provided so that you may give informed consent for your surgery.

Please note it is very important that we receive your information promptly to allow us time to check your medical needs and best prepare for your upcoming stay. Your booking is not confirmed until we have received and processed this paperwork.
Pre-admission Phone Call
Our pre-admission nurse may phone you in the lead-up to your procedure to discuss your:
- Arrival time
- Fasting times
- Transport and parking
- Adult support person to collect you and remain with you for 24 hours post-procedure
- Length of stay
- Medical and medication history
- Allergies to food or medications
- A discussion on what matters to you to establish a goal of care for your admission
- Other admission and discharge details
- Any mobility issues

For paediatric patients, our nurse may phone you to discuss a separate list of pre-admission screening questions.
Fasting
Your specific fasting time and any special dietary requirements will be advised during your pre-admission phone call with our nurse. Please do not chew gum on the day of surgery.
Procedure Times
- Our hospital will contact you one business day before your procedure to confirm your arrival time.
- Please arrive at the requested time (no earlier or later).
- Different surgeries have different operating times. Please discuss this with our pre-admission nurse, and they will best advise you on how long you can expect to be at the hospital.
Procedure Delays
The safety and care of patients at Westside Private Hospital is our highest priority, which is why in some instances procedure times can be delayed if:
- Unexpected complications arise during surgery
- Additional time is needed for more extensive investigation of a patient’s condition
- Counselling patients and families is required
Please be understanding and considerate of your fellow patients in the unlikely event your procedure is delayed. When delays occur, our staff will keep you updated.
Additional Pre-admission Patient Information
As a precaution, you will be asked screening questions before your admission in case you are symptomatic of a transmissible disease (eg. COVID-19, Influenza). If you are feeling unwell, please notify us immediately and do not attend the hospital.
Westside Private Hospital is a vape and smoke free environment. Patients and visitors are prohibited from vaping or smoking on hospital grounds or near entrance and exit points.
It is important you discuss the management of your diabetic medications with your Doctor and Anaesthetist as you will need medical advice about your medication and fasting times.
Certain medications can affect surgery or interact with anaesthetics. Please ensure you discuss with your doctor and our pre-admission nurse any and all medications that you are taking, including:
- Blood thinning medication
- Medication for diabetes
- Weight loss medication
- Non-prescription medicines, and
- Vitamins and natural supplements
Please disclose any side effects or allergic reactions to past medications.
If our nurses give you medicine while in hospital, they will discuss the reason for this and potential side effects so that you can make informed choices about your medicine needs. Our nurses and Doctors will undertake a medication review of any patient identified as at risk of experiencing medicine-related problems.
Our nurses will ask for your full name, date of birth and allergies on every occasion you are given medication.
