Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

MBBS, FRACS (Plast) Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr Ajay Chauhan is a fully qualified, Australian trained Specialist Plastic Surgeon dedicated to excellence in Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.

Dr Chauhan completed his formal training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Brisbane, obtaining his FRACS in 2012. He went on to work as a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in Melbourne at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and Monash Health. Post fellowship training in France, Germany, India and the USA has further enhanced his practice, and he continues to learn from world experts while sharing his expertise with younger plastic surgeons in training.

Ajay was initially drawn to the specialty because of the challenges involved – a high level of surgical skill, attention to detail and extensive knowledge of anatomy. The ability to restore a sense of self to his patients is what keeps him motivated. He is known to be a thoughtful problem solver who acts with compassion and care.

He is passionate about Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, especially following Cancer Treatment, and works extensively with other Specialists to help solve problems in many different fields.

In Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Ajay will make a careful analysis of his patient’s goals and guide them towards a sensible, reliable and appropriate option. He provides information so that his patients are well equipped to make the right decisions.

By travelling extensively and continuing to meet with the best surgeons in the world, he is able to offer his patients the latest Plastic Surgery techniques. He will adopt new treatment methods only when they are based on sound surgical principles and are proven to be effective.

BSc, MBBS, FRACS (Plast.)
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

“Every day and every patient present a different set of problems for me to solve and this remains intriguing to me. A deep interaction with my patients is a necessity so as we can figure out the most functional solution that allows them to continue interacting with their world, their environment, and indeed within their own life in an optimal way.”

Dr Jardim holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney and Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery from University of Queensland. He is a Fellow and member of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) as well as the Australian Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) and Australian Hand Surgery Society. Dr Jardim joins Valley Plastic Surgery with a wide range of surgical skills but is particularly interested in reconstructive and peripheral nerve microsurgery, hand and wrist trauma, skin cancer and head and neck reconstruction.

He was initially drawn to pursuing a career as a surgeon after seeing the “The Guinea Pig Club,” a documentary about Dr Archibald McIndoe, a New Zealand plastic surgeon who, during WWII, worked for the Royal Air Force (RAF) and completely reshaped the lives of hundreds of men and the very course of plastic surgery through his pioneering plastic surgery techniques.

“I chose a career in plastic surgery because the notion of developing such a wide range of technical skills to treat such a diverse set of conditions was highly appealing.”

Dr Jardim honed his skills with an Orthopaedic fellowship with the Brisbane Hand and Upper Limb team at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and he remains as a staff specialist in the Hand Unit and Plastic and Reconstructive Unit at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. His keen aesthetic judgment and diverse technical skills ensure that the choice of procedures and their performance are optimised for each patient. His surgical philosophy is simple: to combine form and function in tandem with an excellent patient relationship to create the optimum outcome.

Outside of his busy practice, Chris and his wife – who is also a surgeon – enjoys spending as much time as possible with his young family.
