Dr Peter Ko is a specialist gastroenterologist with an interest in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. He works as a senior staff specialist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Peter graduated from medical school in 2007 and completed his specialty training in South Korea. During this time, he completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in internal medicine. Peter has been working as a consultant gastroenterologist since 2013 and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2019. He has strong interest and extensive experience in treating large and complicated polyps and has a demonstrated track record of excellent outcomes.
Peter moved from South Korea to New Zealand in 2018, before settling in Brisbane in 2021. Since then, he has cared for patients at Westside Private Hospital, prioritising clear communication, tailored treatment options, and comprehensive procedural assessments.
Peter’s special interests include:
• Gastroscopy
• Colonoscopy (including EMR and endoscopic submucosal dissection of large polyps)
• ERCP (diagnostic and therapeutic)
• Luminal stenting
• PEG insertion
• General gastroenterology
Dr Ko participates in Montserrat’s rapid access endoscopy program, allowing eligible patients to bypass the traditional consultation pathway and proceed directly to have their colonoscopy or gastroscopy. This approach ensures timely investigation, with procedures typically performed within 7 to 14 days for faster diagnosis and care.

Patients with eligible private health insurance can have their procedure covered with no out-of-pocket costs, apart from any insurer-required excess or co-payment. Please be aware that Anaesthetist fees may attract a separate fee.
